וַיִּגַּשׁ אֵלָיו יְהוּדָה וַיֹּאמֶר בִּי אֲדֹנִי יְדַבֶּר נָא עַבְדְּךָ דָבָר בְּאָזְנֵי אֲדֹנִי – Yehudah walked up to [Yoseph] and said, ‘Please, your highness, let me say something to you personally. (Bereishis 44:18)
The holy Baal Shem Tov said: there once was this king who wanted to celebrate, and he let everyone know that today you can get whatever you want. And of course, everybody runs to the king, one person asks for money and another ask for kavod, but there was one wise man who said: “All I want from you my king is that I should have a pass that whenever I want I can come in and we can chill together.”
Said the holy Toldos: Yehuda is in this really stuck situation, וַיִּגַּשׁ אֵלָיו יְהוּדָה – he was coming to pray to Hashem, and you know what his prayer was? בִּי אֲדֹנִי – I beg you Hashem, יְדַבֶּר נָא עַבְדְּךָ דָבָר בְּאָזְנֵי אֲדֹנִי – please, all I want from you is that when I’m in a stuck situation, I should be able to communicate with you.
Because once I’m there and I’m comfortable in knowing how to discuss my deepest feelings and fears with you – I’m good! I’ll get whatever I need because I know how to speak and I always have an open door by you.” 🔥
