Some people see the month of Mar-Cheshvan as “Mar” – a bitter month.
It’s the time when the leaves come down, the winter begins, the sukkah is packed away and the Lulav is on top of your door, and that Esrog is turning into compote. But the holy Ruzhiner taught us the secret: מרחשוון comes from שפתותיהן מרחשות – moving lips.
And just like when you unplug a fan, the inertia keeps it spinning, so too after Tishrei – when your lips were moving in prayer and you were shaking the Lulav and Esrog – comes the month of Mar-Cheshvon. That’s when you keep on moving, the inertia of the Kedusha keeps you going… Today.
