But in today’s generation all we need is love. Is that really so?
If you look in all the Chassidic masters on שֹׁפְטִים וְשֹׁטְרִים תִּתֶּן לְךָ בְּכָל שְׁעָרֶיךָ – you see that they took discipline and consequences very seriously. They self-disciplined themselves that if they saw something they didn’t like, or they spoke in a way they believed they shouldn’t have, they consequenced themselves.
And you could say, why do you need consequences? Why can’t we just love our children? And the answer is: In order for Love to be experienced there has to be boundaries.
And in order to have boundaries and rules, you have to have a policing system of consequences that if you break a rule something is going to happen. And that’s what creates a safe space where you can experience Love.
שֹׁפְטִים וְשֹׁטְרִים תִּתֶּן לְךָ – That’s what’s going to give you to yourself, to experience the love and the laughter and the happiness you’ve been looking for… Today.
