The pasuk says: וְהַקְּלָלָה… לָלֶכֶת אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹקים אֲחֵרִים אֲשֶׁר לֹא יְדַעְתֶּם – Usually we translate that as “To follow other gods that you didn’t know”. Now, if you took in the Aryeh Kaplen Living Chumash, he translates it “To follow other gods, to have novel spiritual experiences.”
Now, I don’t know how much we connect to other gods, but when we talk about looking for “novel spiritual experiences” that’s so relevant. We’re all looking for novel spiritual experiences, and Hashem says: don’t allow yourself to fall into a curse, find the Jewish spiritual experiences. The path to me is through my spiritual experiences, and that’s what’s going to connect you and make your life worth living… Today.
