His name was Reb Yisroel Friedman, he was the king of all Rebbes; he was known as the holy Ruzhiner.
Why was his name Friedman? Because his father’s name was Shalom, so in Yiddish he named himself Fried-man – a man of peace.
And as he was escaping from Russia, one of the Chassidim told him “Rebbe, maybe change your name so that when you’re asked who you are you can say a different name?”
Said the Holy Ruzhiner: לֶךְ לְךָ מֵאַרְצְךָ וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ – When you come from the house of Terach, you can run away from your father’s house.
I can go away מֵאַרְצְךָ וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ but there’s no way that I can go away from being a man of peace. I’m so happy from where I come from! … Today.
