A wealthy chusid came to R’ Yissachar Dov of Belz, and the Rebbe told him “I have this poor family that needs help, will you be so kind and help them?” And the wealthy man said “Rebbe, I’m sorry, but I just don’t have any money right now.”
So the Rebbe told him a story: Once upon a time, there was a medical student who came to this great professor for his final exam, and the professor asked him “what will you do when someone is bleeding?” And the student said “I’ll bandage him.” So the professor said “but what if you don’t have any bandages?” And the student was stumped, and he said “I don’t know.”
And the professor ripped up the diploma and said “You can’t be a doctor. If you would really care about the patient, you would rip your shirt and use it as bandages to stop the bleeding.”
Said R’ Yissachar Dov of Belz: This family’s heart is bleeding. I know that you might not have money right now, but if you would really care you would sell your Tallis and Tefillin for another Jew. #Today
